Overview
This page covers the game options not covered on its own page, specifically the Search, Trade, Market, Mail, Options, and News screens.

Search
While the search options don't require rangers, you won't find much, if anything, without them. The choices are all pretty self-explanatory, except for "Other Players", which is used to find the locations ("locs" or "maps") of other players. There's no way to search for specific players. A maximum of 10 locs can be found per turn.

Searching for land is the easiest and most practical way to grow. As you get more land, searching for land requires more and more rangers and the effective limit is around 2,000 acres, though small fed players can briefly gain more.

Searching for gold and food should only be done in emergencies until you get larger and the gold your rangers find becomes a major source of income. When you're doing heavy spellbook research and military tactics, you'll want to hire in large numbers before you have the income to hire the max 200k every turn. Study and build long enough to get a positive net income and then hire a million or so military or researchers then train or study spellbook. Maintenence is calculated after searching, so you may have less than 50 million gold after searching even if you find 200 mil. You should try to keep food somewhat under control, but searching occasionally to cover a small deficit isn't unreasonable.

Trade
Any resource besides land, buildings, research, and pop can be sent in trade to any player whose loc you have. A maximum of 10% of your gold, food, weapons, and armor, five locs, and 0.5% of your total numbers of any other item may be sent. Your own loc is automatically included in any trade. Every item requires a certain amount of gold to be spent. Consult my trade table for a list of these costs.

Enter the amount of each item you wish to send in the appropriate window. To send locs, click them in the lower left menu to highlight them. To unselect locs before or after a trade, click them again. Unfortunately, this can be a hassle if you want to use multiple trades to send more than 5 locs. Click to select the recipient in the lower right-hand menu.

Market
Military units, engineers, researchers, equipment, food, and gold may all be traded on the open market. The menu on the left side of the screen lists all available posts in the form <item being sold> - <item asked for in trade>. Click any trade and the specific details will be displayed on the right side of the screen. The items being sold are shown on top, along with number and rating, if applicable. The purchase price is shown below with the type of item required, number, and rating, if applicable. The seller is listed below the other details. Click "Buy Items" to accept the asking price. Assuming you have enough of the item requested and they are of sufficient quality, the acquisition will be credited to your account and the price will be deducted. If the trade selected is your own, clicking "Buy" will take the trade off the market at no cost.

Posting trades is accomplished at the very bottom of the screen. From left to right, select the commodity to be sold, enter the number to sell, select the item you want in return, enter the number you want in return, and select the quality of the items desired, where applicable. Maximum rating is only 500, unfortunately, and military and equipment acquired when someone purchases your trade will be 500 max, regardless of their actual rating (assuming it's at least 500). Items posted for sale will be at their current rating. No item can be sold for the same item and only relatively small quantities can be posted. Attempting to post a trade that violates either of these will give you a pop-up telling you not to "post spam trades" Trades will appear on the market in 2-10 hours, as a precaution against people using the market to send trades to a specific player without using a turn. As noted above, you can cancel your post at any time by selecting your trade and clicking "Buy".

Mail
Note: The Forgotten World Classic Forums have replaced in-game genmail, so don't bother using the "Post to All" option...no one will read it.

Most private communications is done in chat or through icq, but the private mail option is still nice to have if you need it. Threatening, whining, and taunting messages to your attackers or targets is always popular. To send privmail, you must have either the intended recipient's loc, or have mail from him saved. Type your message in the large window. It doesn't wrap, so be sure to hit enter before you go off the end of the screen. The subject goes in the small window on the lower right-hand side of the top bar. For replies, a "Re-" is automatically inserted before the original subject. If the reply option is used, all saved messages from the recipient will be included below the new message, so I prefer just to post private. Select the recipient's name in the menu on the lower left-hand side of the top bar. Your locs are listed alphabetically and people from whom you have saved mail are listed last. Click "Post Private" once to send.

To view new or saved messages, select the sender's name in the menu in the upper right. To delete messages from a particular person, select his name in the same place and click "Delete". You have a limited amount of space for mail, so be sure to delete unimportant messages regularly.

Options
The options screen includes all account options. It's also where you set your taxes. In vacation mode, you will not accumulate or be able to use turns, or do anything else, and may not be attacked, but you may still receive trades, send and receive mail, chat, and look at any screen. To enter vacation mode, click "Vacation Mode" then "Confirm Vacation", or, if you change your mind, click "Deny Vacation", though you probably won't leave yourself much time to reconsider. You may leave vacation mode any time after 72 hours by clicking "Deny" as well.

To delete your account permanently and irrevocably, click "Delete Account" and "Confirm Delete". If you change your mind in the fraction of a second it takes to move the cursor from "Delete" to "Confirm", or if clicking it in the first place was an accident and you're worried you might accidentally click "Confirm" too, click "Deny Delete".

To set your tax rate, select your desired tax on the slider (any number from 10-50%, except 29% for some inexplicable reason) and click "Change Taxes". I recommend 42% at the very beginning before you start searching for land, 30% when you do start searching, maybe 35% at around 500% entertainment, and 45% when ent is maxed. I use these numbers because I don't like to change my tax rate very often and they are fairly safe.

Checking "Show adult advertising" does nothing. ;(

To change your password, enter your new pass in both boxes and click "Change Password".

News
News shows the results of every turn you use, Change in population, income, maintenence, food produced, food used, and mana earned. The formulas for the latter five can be found in general formulas. News also shows all actions taken against your province, the effects of spells currently acting on your kingdom, and any random spells that have affected you. There is a limited amount of space available for your news, and older events will be truncated when the space runs out.

The primary purpose of the "Save News" option is for recording notes to yourself, as all news that isn't deleted is saved automatically. It can also be used if you want to delete most of news (highlight and hit the "del" key on your keyboard) but save news of attacks on your kingdom or the like.
